Tom Herman hasn’t live up to his promise in Austin

Once again, Texas isn’t back. The jokes wrote themselves.

Herman is signed through 2023 after the two sides agreed to a two-year extension to his original contract. Texas is paying Herman over $5 million per season to bring the brand back, but he’s failed to do so at this juncture. Another loss at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners — their third straight in the rivalry — all but cements the fact that they’re a tier below OU in the Big 12. Even on an off year for the Sooners, in which their 1-2 start might have eliminated them from College Football Playoff contention after three weeks, the Longhorns could not notch a win.

Texas could drop out of the top-25 rankings yet again. Texas faithful aimed their frustration directly at Herman.

College football Twitter came after Tom Herman

There were many, many more to choose from that weren’t as SFW. Herman’s contract and status at Texas demands far more than he’s delivering. He’s had four years of decent quarterback play with Sam Ehlinger, and enough recruiting classes to make more of an impact in the Big 12.

Instead, Herman hasn’t developed that talent into anything of note on a consistent basis. The NFL Draft has been lacking in Longhorns, which is a sign Herman isn’t doing his nearly job well enough.

Despite Texas taking the game into overtime, Longhorns fans had plenty of ammo for Herman in regulation. We’ll see if they have to eat their words.
