Dak Prescott’s campaign is over after he undergoes season-ending ankle surgery

You knew it as soon as you saw it happen, but Dak Prescott‘s 2020 season is officially over.

The Dallas Cowboys franchise quarterback broke his ankle trying to scramble outside of the pocket vs. the rival New York Giants. It bent in the completely opposite direction, and there was no way he was going to play another snap for “America’s Team” after it. As Andy Dalton assumes the starting job the rest of the way, Prescott will undergo season-ending surgery on the ankle.

This was the worst thing to happen to Dak Prescott in his NFL career

Because the Cowboys were unable to land a multi-year contract extension with Prescott, he had to play on the 2020 NFL franchise tag. In his first four years out of Mississippi State University, Prescott outplayed his fourth-round draft status. He may have had to go the Kirk Cousins route in his free agency, but now, he and the Cowboys could move on after only five years together.

Dalton had been the perennial starter for the last decade with the Cincinnati Bengals. The former TCU Horned Frogs star has a huge opportunity here in his NFL second act. He’ll try to make the most of it, but if he can’t, the Cowboys might be looking for a new quarterback in free agency, a trade or the 2021 NFL Draft. What horrendous luck for a talent like Prescott. We all feel for him.

As Prescott goes under the knife, his future is as uncertain as ever. We’re hoping for the best.
