Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski have their faces in the stands during the ALCS.

The ALCS between the Tampa Bay Rays and Houston Astros kicked off Sunday night without fans in attendance. Cardboard cutouts provide the only smiles in the stands and a few famous faces even made appearances.

Such a series would have famous fans under normal circumstances. Instead, the Rays made sure to include some new hometown heroes among the cutouts in attendance.

Tom Brady and Gronk show their support

Tampa just welcomed Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski to town this year and so far the duo has helped lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 3-2 start. Gronk has mostly been quiet, but his personality looms large and he is waiting for a breakout performance.

The current story surrounding Brady has to do with him seemingly forgetting what down it was at the end of Thursday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears. Still, he has the Bucs as a playoff favorite and is still off to a 3-2 start. That team has not been to the postseason since 2007 and has not won 10 games since 2010. A 3-2 record is nothing to panic about.

Tampa is looking to become Titletown USA with the Rays in the ALCS following a Stanley Cup victory for the Lightning. Taking down the Astros would also make the Rays national heroes in the eyes of most baseball fans. That should mean plenty of support for the club throughout the duration of the ALCS.

Next. The Tampa Bay Rays are a threat to anyone this postseason. dark

Having no fans in attendance is a bummer and that will change if the Rays can advance to the World Series. Getting some famous faces among the cutouts is a simple and fun consolation and perhaps the football stars can provide some good luck for the Rays.
