Travis Kelce took personal responsibility for the Chiefs’ loss on Twitter, pledging to be better going forward.

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered their first loss of 2020 in embarrassing fashion. They let the Las Vegas Raiders come into Arrowhead Stadium and stomp all over them.

The Raiders walked away with a 40-32 victory. The Chiefs walked away humbled.

For All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce, the performance was unacceptable on a personal level.

Travis Kelce may be taking responsibility, but he’s the least of the Chiefs problems

Kelce did make a key mistake. He was called for an offensive pass interference penalty which wiped out a touchdown from Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The Chiefs had to settle for a field goal at the end of the first half to tie nstead of grabbing a four-point lead.

The loss being all on his shoulders doesn’t really fit reality though. Kelce had a far more positive impact on the game than a negative one. He led all receivers with eight catches, totaling 108 yards and a touchdown.

He wasn’t the one playing defense and allowing 40 points to the Raiders. He wasn’t the only one who kept the offense from playing at its best.

Kelce still deserves credit for taking responsibility at all. That’s what a veteran leader does. Head coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and others in the locker room will have to make sure the rest of the team follows Kelce’s lead.

Kansas City will have a while to regroup. They are slated to take on the Buffalo Bills next Monday. Even though Josh Allen and the Bills are on a roll with a 4-0 record, the Chiefs are defending Super Bowl champions. A win should be in their reach.

Of course, Allen and that offense which has put up 27 or more points in each of their victories will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing a reeling Chiefs defense.
