George Springer wasted no time getting the Astros on the board in Game 5

With the Astros on the brink, Dusty Baker and Co. are taking things one game at a time. For Springer, that equates to one pitch at a time, evidently. The soon-to-be free agent outfielder blasted a homer run on the first pitch of the game John Curtiss, and the Rays opener attempt isn’t off to a good start.

Kevin Cash and the Rays employed the opener before it was cool, so they won’t let one outlier dissuade them. Springer turned on Curtiss’ pitch immediately, smacking it to left field and halfway up the foul pole.

There’s a reason Springer is expected to notch an absurd contract this Winter. He’s a proven commodity.

The Astros inning didn’t continue long after that

With Carlos Correa up and Jose Altuve on first base, Altuve was picked off of first base, ending the inning early. This will be frustrating for Astros fans, as Correa has been raking so far this postseason, taking on the team’s villain mindset and producing in spite of it.

It’s only the first inning and we’ve had a full playoff game’s worth of action in San Diego.
