No. 3 Georgia at No. 2 Alabama (-6) – Saturday, 8 p.m. ET

Georgia has had a very strange season. The quarterback battle was supposed to be between J.T. Daniels and Jamie Newman. Newman opted out of the 2020 season right before it started. Then, Daniels took longer than expected to get healthy. Now, the Bulldogs are going with Stetson Bennett and D’Wan Mathis. The quarterback situation is always the biggest storyline for Georgia heading into the game, but they’ve overcome it every single time. Now, Bennett is going to take the Bulldogs into the biggest matchup for Georgia in years (and that’s saying something).

The winner of this game is on the quick run to the College Football Playoff. Alabama has been looking to make up for last year’s disappointment. LSU is not good, the Crimson Tide already destroyed Texas A&M, and Florida might have hurt their chances to make it to the SEC Championship Game with a loss to the aforementioned Texas A&M. This is the last real matchup that’s in their way to making the run towards a championship.

The thing that throws an absolute wrench into this game is Nick Saban. It came out on Wednesday he tested positive for COVID-19. He is 68 years old, so he is in the higher-risk age range. There is no chance he is going to be available for this game. This also may be a problem for any players and coaches who were around him. Will they need to quarantine? This is something with so many questions, it could derail the Crimson Tide.

As far as the bet, it’s best to wait until Friday to make it so bettors have the most information. Still, this Alabama defense is facing a Georgia quarterback who is more surprise than substance. This is a defense that can force mistakes from the best of players. This also could be the matchup that turns Bennett into a pumpkin. Even if he doesn’t fall flat on his face, there is still a lot more talent on the Crimson Tide, even if the margins are menial. Go with the talent when there are this many question marks surrounding the talent. Alabama is on a mission, and they might be the one team that will get more motivated with their head coach off the sidelines.

Pick: Alabama (-6)
