Kentucky got two pick-sixes in a span of fewer than three minutes vs. Tennessee quarterback Jarrett Guarantano as the WIldcats defense flexes on the Vols.

Kentucky football may just have the best defense in the nation. One week after the Kentucky Wildcats recorded six interceptions against Mississippi State, they already have three in the first half vs. Tennessee, including a pair of pick-sixes.

And the interceptions returned for a touchdown came within three minutes of each other as Kentucky puts Tennessee down early in a pivotal SEC East showdown for both teams trying to prove their legitimacy.

Kentucky is in pick-six heaven vs. Tennessee

The first pick-six came from Kelvin Joseph who took the Guarantano pass 41 yards to the house.

Six plays later, Jamin Davis took a Guarantano pass 85 yards to paydirt to extend Kentucky’s lead to 14-0 in the second quarter.

Guarantano was briefly benched in favor of J.T. Shrout but after he threw an interception (that wasn’t returned for a touchdown) two plays later, Jeremy Pruitt put Guarantano back in the game.

It’s been that kind of start for the Vols who had their eight-game winning streak snapped last week vs. Georgia. This is the type of game they can’t afford to lose as they continue to rebuild the program and try to close the gap on Georgia and Florida at the top of the SEC East.

However, Kentucky has been a stable and consistent team in recent years under Mark Stoops and it would appear that the Vols have underestimated the WIldcats ability to defend the pass and the Vols may as well just run the triple option the rest of the way to mount a comeback.

Kentucky leads 17-7 at the time of publishing. The game can be seen on the SEC Network.
