Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions. Kerryon Johnson. 33. player. 50. . RB

The Bears have been disappointing to say the least over the past few seasons. One of those disappointing players has been their second year running back, David Montgomery. The Bears have given him the opportunities, as he has averaged over 16 touches per game over his first 21 games in the NFL. Unfortunately, that has resulted in only 3.7 yards per carry (YPC). In my opinion, Competition breeds Excellence, and that’s why you trade for Kerryon Johnson.

Out of Auburn, Kerryon looked like a steal. In 2018, his rookie season was cut short to injury, but he still managed 5.4 YPC on 118 rushes. The Lions have been reluctant to make him the workhorse of their backfield. They draft D’Andre Swift and signed Adrian Peterson, making Kerryon the 3rd on the Depth Chart.

Kerryon has shown flashes of potential, similar to David Montgomery. Since Tarik Cohen tore his ACL, the Bears have lacked a true 1-2 punch. Instead, they try to use Cordarrelle Patterson as a change of pace back, which just doesn’t work.

The addition of Kerryon should motivate Montgomery to step his game. It would be best case scenario for Kerryon as he currently gets little to no playing time on the Lions, and that won’t change anytime soon. This trade would cost the Bears nothing more than a 5th/6th round pick, which is a steal for someone of Kerryon’s talent and production.
