Carlos Correa of the Houston Astros celebrates while rounding the bases after hitting a walk-off home run to win 4-3 against Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series at PETCO Park on Oct. 15, 2020, in San Diego, California.

In the race for the pennant, every pitch matters. But, when a game remains tied into the 9th inning, the pressure gets ratcheted up even more. Knowing that Carlos Correa of the Houston Astros has delivered so many big hits over the course of his career, I wanted to remain laser-focused on him at the plate. When he hit the ball, he stood still, and then very slowly made his way up the baseline. Once he started rounding third base and saw his teammates gathered at the plate, he began pumping his fist and celebrated all the way to home.

I’ve been covering LeBron James since 2010 through the NBA Championships with the Miami Heat, but I could see how important this year’s Championship was to him. The look of accomplishment and joy was strikingly evident once the Los Angeles Lakers knew they had Game Six won. It was a pleasure to witness LeBron’s hustle and see him carry this team to get the city of Los Angeles another championship in such a hard year for the sport after losing the legendary Kobe Bryant.
