26. Russell Okung finally retires

Okung moved to the Panthers via a strange trade from the Chargers last offseason. It’s noteworthy that he didn’t choose to take his talents to Carolina. His attachment to his current franchise is questionable at best.

There were even rumors that Okung might retire before the 2020 season began. The Panthers benefited from his choice to play this season. They won’t be so lucky next year.

For the record, Okung’s decision to retire won’t be as a result of his inability to serve as a quality starter. He’s just 32 years old and his body should allow him to continue playing for several additional seasons. Instead, his decision to hang up his cleats will be a product of his desire to pursue other interests.

That puts the Panthers in the market for a new starting left tackle unless they want to entrust the position to Greg Little moving forward. Expect Carolina to draft some competition for Little, at the very least. Okung’s decision to retire might slightly derail the Panthers’ offensive revolution.
