24. Jameis Winston takes over for Drew Brees

This figures to be Drew Brees’ last season. That puts the Saints in the market for a new starting quarterback. The team’s solution might already be on the roster.

No, that does not mean Taysom Hill should get the starting nod. He’s only a gadget player and should not be taking snaps away from Brees at the moment. Instead, it’s Winston who has the talent required to execute Sean Payton’s scheme at a high level.

There’s no question that his tenure in Tampa Bay raises huge red flags about Winston’s ability to be a high-level starter. That line of thinking also discounts the possibility that he’s improved under Payton’s tutelage this season.

The lack of other options available to New Orleans makes gambling on a one-year deal with Winston a really enticing option. It might not work out in the long run, but Winston piloting the Saints offense in 2021 could make or break his NFL career.
