UTIL. Los Angeles Dodgers. player. Pick Analysis. Kike Hernandez. 1. 71. Scouting Report

On seemingly every great team, there is one utility player that can play every position on defense, all the while playing above-average defense at all of those positions. In Hernandez, LA not only has one of the most flexible players in the game, but they get a quality offensive threat that has recorded 35 extra-base hits in each of the last three seasons. Kike finds him unlikely to return to LA after this season, however, as the emergence of Gavin Lux in the infield and the logjam in the outfield might make at-bats hard to come by. For a player in his prime, that could be a tough pill to swallow.

While Hernandez isn’t a tremendous offensive player, there is literally no team that wouldn’t love to reel in Hernandez as a free agent. He has championship experience, positional versatility, and above-average offensive output, all the while carrying with him an electric personality that is sure to galvanize a locker room. Kike’s role on these pennant-winning Dodger teams can’t be underestimated and he could be a steal elsewhere if he bolts in free agency.
