Dinelson Lamet, San Diego Padres
SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – SEPTEMBER 07: Dinelson Lamet #29 of the San Diego Padres (Photo by Sean M. Haffey/Getty Images) /

. San Diego Padres. 127. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 2. player. NL West

The Padres reinvented themselves as one of the deadliest lineups in the league on the backs of Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado, but they did have quite the dominant starting rotation led by Mike Clevinger, Dinelson Lamet, and Chris Paddack. AJ Preller was willing to trade just about anyone at the first sign of the playoffs, meaning we can expect quite the busy offseason from the Padres. Stroman might be seduced by the Southern California sun and the chance to link up with one of the most exciting projects in the league, and doing so could make San Diego a World Series contender.

The Padres have a solid bullpen and a parade of prospects ready to come up, but they need that one veteran edge on their team to solidify the middle of their rotation. While he might be a bit pricy for the Padres if they view Clevinger, Lamet, or Mackenzie Gore as their future ace, but the Padres have clearly shifted into a win-now mode, and doing so means that they will need to overpay for studs like Storman to get that rotation sorted out.
