4. Patrick Peterson tries to stop D.K. Metcalf

The matchup between the Cardinals and Seahawks gives us another example of a talented veteran facing a young player looking to take his figurative place in the league. Peterson came into the league as the outrageously gifted cornerback capable of making big plays. Metcalf doesn’t play the same position, but he fits that type of athletic profile.

Peterson has lost a great deal of explosiveness, but he’s still a quality starter at corner for Arizona. He won’t follow Metcalf all over the field, but the two should get lined up against one another on more than a few snaps.

Metcalf will like his chances to win any one-on-one battle with Peterson. He has advantages in terms of size, strength, and speed. Peterson will look to use his guile to keep Metcalf off-balance as often as possible.

The Cardinals would be thrilled to see this battle play out to something resembling a draw. Metcalf comes into this game on fire as a big-play wide receiver. Arizona has to find a way to slow him down if they want to spring the upset. That’s a tall order for Peterson and the rest of his teammates in the secondary.
