Some major changes are coming for the Boston Red Sox just outside their world-famous Fenway Park.

The 2020 season turned out to be a disaster for the Boston Red Sox. It was clear that there needed to be some big-time changes for the club to move forward and get themselves in a position to compete for another World Series. Those changes aren’t just limited to the players and coaching staff, though.

This week, it’s been reported that the Red Sox front office is partnering up with a real estate developer to completely transform the Fenway Park neighborhood. This may come as a shock to Boston fans, as the old-school feel at Fenway could now be making way for a more modernized look.

The neighborhood around Fenway Park is about to get a serious makeover

According to Sports Business Daily, the remodel that will be in the works will bring apartment buildings, new shops, office spaces and much more. This screams gentrification, which again, may bring some mixed feelings for those who frequent Fenway Park on a regular basis.

This project that Boston has planned surely feels a lot like what we saw the Chicago Cubs do outside of Wrigley Field, as things outside the ballpark in The Windy City sure have changed in recent years.

While these new changes on the way may be exciting, Red Sox fans are a little more worried about the team bouncing back in 2021. This past season, Boston went 24-36 and finished in dead last of the AL East standings. They’ve been forced to watch the division-champion Tampa Bay Rays go on a great postseason run, leading to a World Series showdown with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

While it’s exciting for the ownership to move forward with the remodel project, let’s see what kind of changes are going to be made this offseason to help the team compete next campaign.
