Corey Seager hit a solo home run to mount a late rally against the Tampa Bay Rays.

In the fifth-inning of Game 2 of the World Series, the Los Angeles Dodgers were getting no-hit by Blake Snell and the Tampa Bay Rays. That all changed after Chris Taylor hit a two-run homer in the fifth and Will Smith hit a solo bomb in the sixth. Another Dodger decided to join the home run party in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Down 6-3, shortstop Corey Seager stepped into the batter’s box and mashed a solo shot to center field off relief pitcher Pete Fairbanks to bring Los Angeles within two runs. Also, this was Seager’s seventh home run of the postseason!

Corey Seager’s hot postseason continues

Entering Game 2 of the World Series on Wednesday night, Seager was slashing .286/.379/.735 with 14 hits and 15 RBI. Those latter two statistical categories have now been increased by one. Seager is now one home run away from tying the single postseason record set by Barry Bonds, Nelson Cruz and Carlos Beltran.

Unfortunately for Seager and the Dodgers, that was the only run the team could muster in the inning. Even though Justin Turner notched a double, Fairbanks and Aaron Loup retired Max Muncy, Smith and Cody Bellinger.

The Dodgers might have been down earlier in Game 2, but they showed in the latter half of the contest that you simply can’t count them out.
