Blake Coleman Celebrates after Scoring
EDMONTON, ALBERTA – SEPTEMBER 28: Blake Coleman #20 of the Tampa Bay Lightning is congratulated by his teammates after scoring a goal against the Dallas Stars during the second period in Game Six of the 2020 NHL Stanley Cup Final at Rogers Place on September 28, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 2. Doc’s last goal

You knew this one had to be on here. No, it wasn’t in overtime, or a Cup winner per se, but it’s still a momentous call. More importantly, it’s the one that would prove to be his last.

With the Lightning already leading 1-0 in game six of the 2020 Stanley Cup Final, it felt as if one more goal might put the game away for good. Sure enough, former Devil Blake Coleman took a feed from Cedric Paquette and one-timed it past Anton Khudobin, giving the Lightning a 2-0 lead — one they wouldn’t relinquish.

Doc, perhaps sensing that this could be the goal that put this game safely into the hands of Tampa Bay, put a little extra mustard into the call.

His trademark “Scores!” took on more of a sing-song tone here and he punctuates it afterwards by firmly stating “Blake Coleman makes it 2-0, Tampa Bay,” placing a stamp on the final goal and final game of his career.

Usually, Doc’s calls help accentuate the moment, but here, it’s as if the moment is working for him. This isn’t going to be known as “the time Blake Coleman gave the Lightning an insurance marker in the 2020 Cup,” but instead “the moment the greatest hockey announcer called his final goal.”

After nearly 40 years spent narrating our favorite sports memories, Doc has one all for himself.
