Heisman watch: Trevor Lawrence opens door for Justin Fields, Mac Jones; welcome Graham Mertz
Heisman watch candidate No. 6: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida
After their matchup with LSU last weekend was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak, Kyle Trask and the Florida Gators were off in Week 8, meaning it’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve seen the quarterback on the field. And the last time we saw this Gators team, they were getting upset by Texas A&M. But that loss was not the fault of Trask by any stretch as the signal-caller has been a bonafide stud this year.
Completing 71.8 percent of his passes through three games, Trask has 996 yards with 14 touchdowns and only one interception on this year. In stark contrast to many Florida teams in recent memory, this year’s Gators are built to win with their offense and hope the defense doesn’t kill them. On the part of the offense, that’s due to the elite performance of Trask, which is why he remains solidly in these rankings.
Heisman watch candidate No. 5: Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
While everyone has been looking throughout the Power 5 for contenders, the BYU Cougars have consistently gone about their business in a relatively dominant fashion amid a perfect start. And quarterback Zach Wilson has been the unquestioned star of the show as he’s been playing at an extremely high level. In another dominant victory over Texas State, the Mormon Manziel showed up again.

Despite going to the bench in a blowout midway through the third quarter, Wilson still completed 19-of-25 passes for 285 yards with four touchdowns while adding 15 rushing yards. Now on the year, the BYU quarterback has 1,926 yards and 16 touchdowns through the air with just one interception to go with 115 rushing yards and six more scores. For an undefeated Cougars team, that will undoubtedly turn some heads in the Heisman race.
