Pick Analysis. Atlanta Braves. Mark Melancon. 2. player. 17. Scouting Report. RP

The Braves saw a weakness in their bullpen in 2019, and they decided to fix that by acquiring Melancon and Shane Greene at the trade deadline. While Greene was an All-Star in 2019, it was Melancon who became the better reliever, posting a 3.30 ERA and saving 22 games in a Braves uniform. Both Greene and Melancon are on the free-agent market, and if Atlanta wants to keep one of them, the younger option with a higher upside in Greene might be the one who stays in Braves colors.

The 2020 World Series is coming down to which bullpen can avoid making the big mistake, showing that bullpens remain more valuable than ever in today’s game. Even though Melancon will be 37 next season, his cutter is still a very difficult pitch to square up, and his penchant for generating weak contact should get a few other teams interested in bringing him in as either a setup guy or a closer that isn’t going to cost a ton of money to bring in.
