Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. . Rex Burkhead. player. RB, New England Patriots. 2.. 47

Burkhead is productive when healthy and he gets chances, but the depth in the Patriots’ backfield (James White, Damien Harris, Sony Michel) makes the latter hard to predict. Burkhead and White offer a lot of the same things, with passing game chops that differentiate them from the rest of New England’s backs.

Michel is on IR with a quad injury, and he was also placed on the COVID-19/reserve list heading into Week 6’s game. Assuming he clears COVID-19 protocols and his quad issue is healed, his return seems to be looming at some point over the next couple weeks.

If White, Harris and Michel are available, which they have yet to be at the same time this season, Burkhead is a game plan dependent extra wheel in the New England backfield. Maybe he gets a bit of showcase opportunity against the Bills in Week 8, as the Patriots look to trade from an area where they have depth.

Burkhead is in the last year of his contract, so that should only bolster the idea the Patriots would trade him. Teams looking for a reinforcement at running back should be interested.
