Which NFL teams should begin their rebuild already?
The Texans’ problems are due to a coach’s inability to transform into a decent general manager. There’s no excuse for Adam Gase and the Jets at this point. Almost every player New York has added since his arrival, Gase has either released, seen them sit out for the season or watched them regress immensely.
New York is going back to the tarmac for further maintenance in 2021, but it’s best to unload the cargo that won’t be going to the final destination. Sam Darnold’s struggles are a mix of poor play and play-calling, but any team wanting to upgrade a quarterback can’t help but think of the upside he could bring in the right system. The same goes for Jamison Crowder, who’s been the one constant of the offense this season, averaging 13.2 yards per catch in the slot.
Teams needing depth at linebacker should be inquiring about Avery Williamson. As the leader of the defense, Williamson rebounded from his torn ACL last season and has tallied 50 total tackles, three pass breakups and an interception in seven starts. In the secondary, Brian Poole is a quality nickel defender while Marcus May is versatile enough to play in coverage or against the run.
If “#TankforTrevor” is officially cleared for takeoff, trading everyone valuable will guarantee his pending status. Joe Douglas actually might be smarter steering into the 0-7 mess rather than finding ways to win with or without Gase at the helm.
