Fantasy Football Week 7 stars and studs: Justin Herbert confirms QB1 status
Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers’ rookie quarterback finally earned the first win of what already looks to be an extremely promising NFL career and did so with a fifth successive impressive performance that saw him shred the Jacksonville Jaguars’ dreadful pass defense.
Herbert threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns while running for another score in the Chargers’ 39-29 victory over Jacksonville. The sixth overall pick finished Sunday leading all quarterbacks in fantasy scoring with 38.5 points.
His performance marked Herbert’s third 300-yard game in five starts. He joined Patrick Mahomes as only the second quarterback in NFL history to start his career with five straight games of at least 250 passing yards.
With at least 23 fantasy points in four of his starts, Herbert has proven he is a player that managers can consistently trust as the starting quarterback and is somehow still available in many leagues.
Herbert is owned in 76 percent of Yahoo leagues and 68 percent of ESPN leagues, providing an exciting opportunity for fantasy managers in need of an upgrade at quarterback.
A tough divisional game on the road against the Denver Broncos may provide more of a challenge for Herbert. However, he has provided no reasons not to trust him as a legitimate QB1 regardless of the matchup.
