5. Carson Wentz posts heavy-duty QB1 number vs. the Cowboys

Fansided must have lost its mind to suggest the Week 8 start of a bottom-five passer rating and bottom-six QBR quarterback, right? Probably so but not on this recommendation.

Carson Wentz has not performed well in 2020, make no mistake about it. At the moment, he is a bottom-tier NFL quarterback that is coasting on the reputation, one that he has built over the last four years. It is sensible that he gets the benefit of the doubt, to a degree.

The Eagles are in the hunt for the postseason — with a 2-4-1 record — as Dallas, Washington, and New York continue to embarrass themselves. Hell, Philadelphia is in first place for the NFC East crown. 2020 is strange.

Ordinarily, a quarterback playing this poorly would be relegated to your league’s waiver wire. Wentz might be there right now. But for Week 8, the 27-year-old deserves a starting gig in your lineup. He faces a division foe in the Cowboys. Mike McCarthy’s embattled bunch cannot find wins anywhere after injury has ravaged the quarterback room.

Dallas allows about 24 fantasy points per game to all passers. Their defense is stinky. Consider it a trial period, and go with Wentz if you have a heavy-hitter quarterback on a bye.
