NFL Week 8: Trends which will decide each game
San Francisco 49ers (4-3) at Seattle Seahawks (5-1), 4:25 pm
49ers: It wasn’t until recently that the Niners have had some success in this NFC West rivalry. There was a stretch in which San Francisco dropped 11 straight games to the Seahawks dating back to the 2013 NFC title game. The clubs their season series each of the last two years. And the 49ers are a perfect 3-0 this year away from home.
Seahawks: The team’s 37-34 overtime loss at Arizona last Sunday night was Seattle’s fourth straight setback to an NFC West rival dating back to 2019. Pete Carroll’s club is allowing 28.7 points per game and the most total yards and passing yards in the league. So will the addition of defensive end Carlos Dunlap (via ESPN’s Ben Baby) help?
Dallas Cowboys (2-5) at Philadelphia Eagles (2-4-1), 8:20 pm
Cowboys: With an uncertain quarterbacking situation, Mike McCarthy needs his much-maligned defense to step up this week. Of course, no team in the league has given up more points (243) and Dallas has surrendered 27 offensive TDs. And regardless of who’s been behind center, the team has committed an NFL-high 16 turnovers.
Eagles: Doug Pederson’s injury-riddled club can climb closer to the .500 mark with a win at home against a Cowboys’ team that they stifled a year ago in Philadelphia. Of course, this is a Dallas’ team minus Dak Prescott. And the Eagles’ biggest concern may be Carson Wentz, who has 12 of the team’s 13 turnovers this season.
