Heisman watch: Mac Jones rolls, Justin Fields near-perfect, Travis Etienne makes history
Heisman watch candidate No. 6: Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
With Lawrence out of the lineup, it was obvious that freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei was going to have to play well. However, the bulk of the onus to step up fell on the shoulders of senior running back Travis Etienne. As mentioned, he not only became the all-time leading rusher in the ACC in the comeback win over Boston College on Saturday but he was the driving force in escaping with the win.

As per usual, Etienne led the way for the Tigers on the ground, taking 20 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown. However, it was his receiving efforts that really buoyed Clemson in this game. Etienne led the team in receiving, catching seven balls for 140 yards and another score. For the season, Etienne has 606 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground but also has 434 receiving yards and two scores there. That all-purpose yardage is too great to ignore. With his role now that Lawrence is out, he could make a real surge up these rankings.
Heisman watch candidate No. 5: Kyle Trask, QB, Florida
After a long layoff comprised of a postponement and an off week, Kyle Trask and the Florida Gators were back in action in Week 9 as they saw the Missouri Tigers come to town. Despite the time not on the field and the fact that the Gators lost their last game prior to Saturday, Trask didn’t show any signs of slowing up on the offensive side of the ball as he continued to make big plays with his arm.
In a 41-17 win for Florida, Trask wasn’t totally perfect as he was just 21-of-36 and threw an interception but he still ended the day with 345 yards and four touchdowns while also leading the team in rushing with 47 yards. Trask now has 1,341 yards, 18 touchdowns and only one interception on the year. Though the Gators might not be a title contender due to their defense, Trask has the offense looking the best it has in a long time.
