Ryan Kerrigan wants to leave Washington after 10 years of service.

Playing in Washington for the last decade has made it easy to forget that Ryan Kerrigan was one of the most consistently productive edge rushers in the league over the course of the last decade. With Washington destined for another losing season, Kerrigan has his eyes set on leaving the nation’s capital and joining a contender.

While Kerrigan, who has been relegated to a rotational role this year and has produced 4.0 sacks in seven games, has requested a trade, Washington doesn’t seem interested, as they want to make a run at a very winnable division.

Ryan Kerrigan has been one of the most underrated players in the league over the last decade

Kerrigan lived up to his status as a first-round pick, as the former Purdue star didn’t miss a start in his career until last season. Except for last season, the four-time Pro Bowler recorded at least 7.5 sacks in every season, hitting double digits four times.

The writing is somewhat on the wall, as the selection of Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick and the continued development of Montez Sweat on the other side is a sign that Ron Rivera wants to go younger on the edge. Kerrigan is still getting to the quarterback, so any team that needs a bit of a boost on the edge should be interested in him.

While Washington trying to make one last push for the postseason with Kyle Allen under center, Kerrigan is eyeing a team that has a legitimate chance of winning the championship. Hopefully, if Washington relents their desire to keep him and sets him free, Kerrigan will get his props as one of the best veteran edge rushers in the game.
