Mac Jones – Alabama

Like Wilson, Jones is a quarterback seemingly ratcheting up draft boards courtesy of a spectacular 2020 season, with Tua Tagovailoa’s successor putting Alabama firmly in position to make a run at regaining the National Championship.

Blessed with a superb cast of surrounding talent at the skill positions, Jones has diced up opposing SEC defenses with frightening ease.

His latest coming in Saturday’s win over Mississippi State, Jones has three four-touchdown performances to his name in 2020, undoubtedly his most impressive coming in a demolition of a Georgia defense many view as the best in the SEC.

Jones’ arm is not of the level of Lawrence, Fields, or Lance but his inferiority in that regard has not prohibited him from making huge downfield plays with regularity.

Rather than pure arm strength, Jones wins because of his ball placement and his timing, possessing a quick release that will surely benefit him in an NFL where there is significantly less time to throw.

The Georgia game did identify some areas of potential improvement, with Jones making risky decisions in the face of the Bulldogs pass rush as a result of trying to do too much.

Yet he is a quarterback with a growing resume of quality displays against elite collegiate competition and is likely to be thrust into the first-round conversation. The Bears should be among the teams considering betting on his sole season of success at Alabama translating to the next level.
