Fantasy Stars & Studs, Week 8: DK Metcalf leads emerging receivers
Tee Higgins – Cincinnati Bengals
The Bengals’ rookie second-round pick didn’t exactly light up the scoreboard in their surprise win over the Tennessee Titans, but the former Clemson star has demonstrated impressive consistency in his first year in the league.
He had six catches for 78 yards on nine targets, good for a pedestrian 14.4 points in PPR scoring.
In isolation, Higgins’ efforts are not that impressive, but a look at the big picture indicates he is set to become one of the more reliable receivers in the NFL.
He has been targeted at least five times in every game this season and only once has he had fewer than four catches.
Averaging 14.8 yards per reception, it is clear Higgins has already developed an excellent rapport with first overall pick Joe Burrow, which will only grow further with more time on the field.
Burrow’s continued impressive play suggests Cincinnati’s offense is one that will become increasingly explosive as better protection and more pieces are put around the 2019 Heisman Trophy winner.
Higgins appears primed to play a significant role in the progression of the Bengals’ passing game. His high floor may not be enough to consider Higgins fantasy starter material in 2020, but dynasty and keeper league players who invested in him will begin reaping the benefits of that decision in 2021.
