Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. . 2. 66. Pacific. Phoenix Suns. player

The Suns captured the hearts of the nation when they caught fire in the NBA bubble, as it set themselves up nicely for the future in a competitive West. Unfortunately, Phoenix’s hot streak landed them with the No. 10 pick in the draft, meaning they might miss out on some of the draft’s elite point guards. The Suns need to cross their fingers and hope that Haliburton’s limited athletic profile forces him to slip a little bit in the draft, as Monty Williams could grab a starter for the next decade if he is able to pick him.

The Suns have three point guards right now, but none of them look like long-term fixes. Ricky Rubio is a great distributor, but an average offensive threat. Elie Okobo is a backup through and through, and Jevon Carter’s defensive skills far outpace his offensive productivity. Drafting Haliburton would not only make Okobo and Carter redundant, but it would give Phoenix a new starter that could replace Rubio.

No one is taking away Devin Booker’s role as the team’s featured scorer or double-double machine DeAndre Ayton’s ability to dominate inside, but this team still needs more tertiary scorers. If Haliburton can spot up from three while being able to create his own shot with some fragment of regularity, he could be an ideal pick for Phoenix.
