Golden State Warriors: Jason Richardson

Jason Richardson would’ve fit perfectly in today’s NBA. In his six seasons with the Golden State Warriors, the majority of his field-goal attempts were either right at the basket (26.3 percent of his 2-pointers came between zero and three feet) or beyond the arc (28.3 percent of shots were 3-pointers). Richardson’s best statistical season occurred in his second-to-last year in the Bay Area as in 2005-06, he averaged a career-high 23.2 points.

Although Richardson shot a respectable 35 percent from long range on 4.6 attempts, he was more effective at slashing around the halfcourt and slipping towards the basket. Not only was he a great cutter, but he was an even better finisher, especially on his dunks. Keep in mind that Richardson is listed as 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds.

Yet he somehow had legs of pure steel considering how he always tried to jump out of the gym on his slams. Richardson didn’t just jump; he floated to the rim like Gerald Green and wanted to tear down the entire hoop.

Unfortunately, Richardson was way ahead of his time and retired at the ripe age of 34 years old. That doesn’t mean he didn’t make the most of his 14 seasons in the NBA: 17.1 points per game and 37 percent from long range in 857 contests, including 842 starts. Richardson also spent three seasons in Phoenix and two in Charlotte, Orlando and Philadelphia (he missed the entire 2013-14 season with the 76ers due to a knee injury).
