NFL Week 9: Trends which will decide each game
Carolina Panthers (3-5) at Kansas City Chiefs (7-1), 1:00 pm
Panthers: The team has had a few extra days to prepare for the reigning Super Bowl champions and the club’s first appearance at Arrowhead Stadium since 2012. This marks the Panthers’ third clash with an AFC West foe this year, losing at home to the Raiders (34-30) in Week 1 and then defeating the Chargers in Los Angeles (21-16) in Week 3.
Chiefs: Dating back to Week 12 of 2019, Andy Reid’s team owns a 16-1 overall record (including playoffs). And since the loss to the Raiders at home in Week 5, the Chiefs have won three straight games by a combined 104-42 count. Kansas City is tied for the NFL lead with 14 takeaways while Reid’s club has committed just five turnovers.
Detroit Lions (3-4) at Minnesota Vikings (2-5), 1:00 pm
Lions: Per NFL.com, Matthew Stafford was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Wednesday. He could still play on Sunday but if not, veteran Chase Daniel is likely to open vs. the Vikings. The much-traveled quarterback has played for four different teams and made five career starts with two different franchises over a 10-year period.
Vikings: Only Derrick Henry (775) has run for more yards this season than Minnesota’s Dalvin Cook. The latter has totaled 122 carries for 652 yards and 10 touchdowns in the team’s seven games. Cook is also third in total yards from scrimmage (779) and leads the league with 11 total TDs. The Lions rank 2rd in the NFL in rushing defense.
