2. Chicago Bears

Bears head coach Matt Nagy is trying to prove himself to be an offensive genius away from Andy Reid, and he clearly has a desire to be the smartest man in the room. But the offense isn’t good, despite having some good pieces (Allen Robinson, David Montgomery, Cordarrelle Patterson, Tarik Cohen, etc.), held back by a bad offensive line and bad quarterback play in equal measure.

However, the Bears’ defense remains a top-tier unit in the league. That’s a good starting point for a coach with defensive roots like Belichick, and on a similar note, the Bears were in the mix to sign Tom Brady. If the Bears fall off down the stretch this season, Nagy and GM Ryan Pace could be gone.

Nagy, like one of his mentors former NFL coach Brad Childress, likes to try to show how smart he is with little or no results to back it up. A lack of discipline from players (see Javon Wims in Week 8 as an example) easily reflects badly on Nagy. Belichick, obviously, has those six Super Bowl pelts on the wall to prove what he does works. Nothing Belichick does is without reason or a plan, even if it’s not always immediately obvious.

Not that the Bears have a lot to boast about, but Belichick’s results-over-bluster mode should be welcome. A big trade for a new head coach, and cultural reset, might just be worth it in Chicago.
