5 candidates to replace Matt Nagy as Bears head coach
4. Eric Bieniemy, Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator
Bieniemy should be a head coach right after the Chiefs’ playoff run is over this year. It’s just a matter of where he’ll step in, if said team will wait for him and just as importantly where he wants to be. Would replacing Nagy, a fellow member of Andy Reid’s coaching tree and the man he replaced as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator, be something he’d entertain?
Just when you think Bieniemy has shown all he possibly could in the Chiefs’ playbook, he came out with this play on Sunday against Carolina.
Putting the quarterback in motion before taking the snap feels like it should be illegal, but it’s truly just innovative and sure to be copied. Having a uniquely gifted quarterback like Patrick Mahomes helps open up possibilities for unique play design, but credit to Bieniemy for keeping all options on the table and being willing to try things.
If Nagy is fired, the Bears should be at the front of the line to interview Bieniemy. As he considers his options, the Bears might be in the best position to win immediately.
