Mississippi State will have to wait to play Auburn until mid-December after this weekend’s game was postponed after a virus outbreak.

A COVID-19 outbreak within the Mississippi State football program has led to a postponement.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs were supposed to host the No. 24 Auburn Tigers on Saturday. However, a virus outbreak at Mississippi State quickly led to this game being postponed. The SEC announced the game’s postponement on Monday afternoon with a tentative rescheduled date for Dec 12.

This is the third SEC football game to be postponed this college season

While the Bulldogs have not had anything close to a good first year under head coach Mike Leach, it stinks that they cannot play an SEC West foe in Auburn because of an outbreak. Fortunately, the SEC was smart enough to build in flexibility to its 10-game, conference-only slate. This is the third game to be postponed in the SEC season, and it may not be the last one we see this week with LSU-Alabama in jeopardy after a small outbreak at LSU.

It’s been a busy day in the SEC with Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman testing positive, Texas A&M pausing activities due to positive tests and the news of LSU and Alabama being in doubt.

A few weeks ago, the Florida Gators had their game postponed with the LSU Tigers because of a breakout internally. In that same week, the Vanderbilt Commodores experienced one of their own, which led to the postponement of their game vs. the Missouri Tigers.
