Dallas Cowboys: D-

Mike McCarthy’s first season at the helm with the Cowboys has seen the team utilize for different starting quarterbacks as Dak Prescott went down in Week 5. It hasn’t helped that the offensive line has struggled and the Dallas’ defense is among the worst in the league. Running back Ezekiel Elliott has had his issues, losing four of his five fumbles. But there’s a lot of blame to go around as McCarthy’s team has committed an NFL-high 20 turnovers.

Denver Broncos: C+

For the second straight year under head coach Vic Fangio, the Broncos stumbles out of the gates. Second-year quarterback Drew Lock has been spotty but also missed his share of time early in the year. The Denver defense has been adequate without Von Miller but the secondary has been burned by the long ball too many times. Philip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon have been steady and rookie wideouts Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler have opened eyes.

Detroit Lions: C

While Matt Patricia’s club has already equaled last season’s total of three victories, that’s hardly a ringing endorsement for a head coach that owns a 12-27-1 record since taking over the job in 2018. The Lions’ defense is subpar and one of the reasons in the team squandering double-digit leads in losses to the Bears, Packers and Saints. Rookie running back D’Andre Swift bears watching but veteran Matthew Stafford has struggled at times.
