The Drew Lock experiment hasn’t worked out the way that general manager John Elway had envisioned.

On April 24, 2019, the Denver Broncos believed they drafted their quarterback of the future in Drew Lock in the second round of the NFL Draft. Fans and analysts alike got a sneak preview of the former Missouri Tiger in the final month of the 2019 season. So far this season, there have been bright spots in Lock’s game, but he hasn’t been able to put it together on a weekly basis.

In Week 10, Lock gave Broncos fans flashbacks of the Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch days following Peyton Manning’s retirement. Lock managed to throw four interceptions against the Las Vegas Raiders in what turned out to be a 37-12 blowout loss. If this game proved anything, it’s that Lock is not the answer that everyone believed he would be. Yes, he lost his top receiver in Courtlannd Sutton for the season, but he still has a stout corps of Jerry Jeudy, Noah Fant, and K.J. Hamler. Yet, the struggles continued.

Based on this performance, the Broncos need to have a contingency plan in place for 2021 in case Lock continues to underperform. Here are three potential replacements for Lock next season.

Jacoby Brissett. 3.. player. Pick Analysis. QB. Indianapolis Colts. 46. Scouting Report

When looking at the free agency market, there aren’t many great options. Dak Prescott tops the list, but it’s unlikely he’ll ever make it to the open market, as the Dallas Cowboys will lock him in via a contract extension or the franchise tag. The next best option for the Broncos is Jacoby Brissett.

The former New England Patriots draft pick was traded to the Indianapolis Colts in 2017 and was thrust into the starter’s position two years later after Andrew Luck walked away from the game of football. Brissett played all but one game that year, and he put up respectable numbers of 2,942 yards, 18 touchdowns and just six interceptions on a 60.9 completion percentage. The Colts didn’t give him another chance this year, as they quickly signed veteran Philip Rivers at the start of the league year. And Brissett’s been second on the depth chart ever since.

If the Broncos want to explore free agency for a quarterback, Brissett is the best of the bunch.
