Denver Broncos: 3 quarterbacks who can replace Drew Lock
By Scott Rogust
If the Broncos opt against signing a free agent or trading for a quarterback, the Broncos could look towards the 2021 NFL Draft. Looking at the draft order and the Broncos’ 3-6 record, they’ll likely pick just outside the top-ten. That means prospects like Lawrence and Ohio State’s Justin Fields will be off the board by the time the Broncos will be on the clock. But, the class is much deeper than initially anticipated, and there’s one name that should entice the Broncos — Zach Wilson.
Wilson is having the best season of his collegiate career with the BYU Cougars. Prior to this past week of the season, Wilson had thrown for 2,152 yards, 19 touchdowns and two interceptions on the year. But many didn’t take those numbers too seriously, because of the program’s lack of competitive opponents. Wilson silenced those critics when he played the Boise State Broncos. During said game, the quarterback 22-of-28 pass attempts for 360 yards and three touchdowns. Not only that, but he made impressive throws with precise accuracy.
With that performance on Boise State’s blue turf, Wilson’s draft stock skyrocketed, where he’s a certified first-round talent. If Lock continues to underperform for the remainder of the 2020 campaign, Denver should do their homework on Wilson.
