The Houston Texans are reportedly considering bringing back Romeo Crennel as head coach next season, which is already causing problems inside the team facility.

What in the world are the Houston Texans thinking? In what’s been a nightmare season for the organization, frustration among the fanbase keeps getting worse and worse. The latest reports out of Houston aren’t going to help in that department.

Per NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the team is considering bringing back interim head coach Romeo Crennel next season to man the position once again. Rapoport has added that this idea has caused plenty of division inside the team facility, with it easy to understand why. How could they possibly think this would be a good idea?

The Houston Texans potentially bringing back Romeo Crennel as head coach next season would be a monster mistake

Entering this weekend’s showdown with the Cleveland Browns, Houston is in second-to-last place of the AFC South standings with its 2-6 record. After their 0-4 start, the team decided to fire former head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien, a move which felt like it was a longtime coming.

The expectation, though, was that the front office would go out this offseason and find a head coach who could not only instill some confidence into the team, but also get on the same page with Deshaun Watson, JJ Watt and the other stars on the roster.

If they bring Crennel back, what kind of message is this sending to the players? While Crennel has done a fine job filling in, he’s not the guy to get this team back to being a serious threat in the division. Houston needs to make a splash hire and start getting the ball rolling on becoming a postseason kind of organization. Houston fans can only hope the latest Rapaport report doesn’t come to fruition, and Crennel isn’t the head man running things next fall.
