In each of the last few years, the Celtics catch the proverbial bouquet and are anointed as next year’s champions due to their star power, coaching, and depth. However, the Miami Heat showed that their frontcourt rotation, which featured either Daniel Theis or Enes Kanter on the floor for most of the game, isn’t up to par. The Celtics have been a bit ambivalent about chasing stars in the offseason outside of Kemba Walker, but Danny Ainge might need to get on the phone with Whiteside if he wants to save Boston’s championship hopes.

While Theis is a solid defensive center, his offensive game is lacking. Kanter is a tremendous offensive center, but he is a turnstile on the defensive end. Whiteside might not be an outstanding offensive player, but his ability to finish near the rim will make him attractive in Boston.

Whiteside doesn’t demand the ball or touches on offense, which means Walker and Jayson Tatum will still be allowed to dominate possession and run the offense. With Whiteside in tow, the likes of Bam Adebayo might be in for a more difficult time in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
