NCAA basketball: Top 15 appointment-worthy teams to watch this season
10. North Carolina Tar Heels
Tar Heels fans will tell you that last season was their worst experience by far in the Roy Williams era. Despite the presence of future first-round pick Cole Anthony, North Carolina flopped and finished down at the bottom of the ACC standings.
The group simply didn’t fit together, but there is plenty of reason for optimism with North Carolina this season. Williams won’t have Anthony anymore but can simply replace him with five-star point guard Caleb Love, who should be a big difference-maker running the offense.
This Tar Heels’ team is also a bit of a throwback as they have one of the deepest frontcourts in college basketball. Garrison Brooks will be North Carolina’s senior leader while youngsters like Armando Bacot, Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler will be difficult to deal with down low for opposing teams.
This style of basketball may be in contrast with some of North Carolina’s top ACC foes like Duke and Virginia, so they will be an intriguing watch. Non-conference games against Iowa and Ohio State also offer intriguing tests to see if the Tar Heels are officially back.
