NBA Free Agency 2020: 5 offseason targets for the Phoenix Suns
3. Davis Bertans
There is not a better 3-point marksman hitting the free-agency market this offseason than Davis Bertans. He’s already one of the top shooters in the league, he’s still only 28 years old and he’s coming off a career season with the Washington Wizards in which he averaged 15.4 points per game and 11.1 of them came from behind the 3-point line.
Bertans is a career 41.1 percent sniper from long range and made 42.4 percent of a career-high 8.7 triples per game last season. Adding a stretch-4 like him would make the Suns’ offense elite given his range and floor-spacing, especially in lineups with Paul, Booker, Cam Johnson and Mikal Bridges. Best of luck defending all the wings and corner 3s with Booker and CP3 completely capable of picking defenses apart off the dribble and in the mid-range.
Like many of the players on this list, the market for Bertans’ services should be competitive. He only made $7 million last year, but could be due for an upgrade in the $15 million range, especially if the Wizards are serious about keeping him. Between that and his lack of strength and speed on defense, which make him a liability on that end despite generally being aware of where he needs to be, this is as high up the list as Bertans goes.
