2. Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are just like the Angels. The team has spent big on players like Bryce Harper and Zack Wheeler in an effort to bring a true core to the team. They even traded for J.T. Realmuto in an effort to win right away after acquiring Harper.

Unfortunately, the Phillies have still not made the postseason since 2011 and something needs to change. One thing that has already happened is GM Matt Klentak stepping down from his role. The front office is open for change and Epstein could inherit a team that is right on the brink of contention.

Joe Girardi is in place as the manager and Harper is the star in town for the next decade. This is not like the challenge Epstein faced with the Cubs. There would be no intense rebuilding period after the Phillies just went 28-32 in the shortened 2020 season.

The Phillies want to be a perennial contender. That is why Harper was signed to be the face of the franchise. They now need new leadership in the front office and Epstein being on the market could be the perfect twist of fate to actually change things on the field.
