2021 NFL mock draft: Cowboys fix their defense in first round with Micah Parsons
By Brad Weiss
The Jacksonville Jaguars hold two first round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, this after trading away Jalen Ramsey to the Los Angeles Rams during the 2019 season. With the Rams pick, which will be later in round one, they bring in a new toy for new quarterback Justin Fields to play with.
Good tight end play is crucial at the NFL level, and in Penn State’s Pat Freiermuth, they get the second-best player at the position in this draft class. Freiermuth is an elite blocker, but he is also a great option in the passing game, something all young quarterbacks need.
The Las Vegas Raiders have an opportunity to make another statement on Sunday night, as they welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to the Death Star. The Chiefs are sitting at 8-1, but their only loss came at the hands of the Silver and Black, who went into Arrowhead and beat them earlier this year.
On defense, the Raiders stepped up big time against Denver last weekend, but they still are not getting enough of a pass rush. In Boston College defensive tackle Christian Barmore, they get a big guy in the middle who can also get in the backfield, as they continue to add young talent to this defense.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are back to looking like a legitimate Super Bowl contender, and they absolutely trounced division rival Carolina this past weekend. If they can play as they did on offense, while also causing havoc on defense, there is no reason this team does not make a serious run to the Super Bowl.
On defense, they need to add young talent on the edge, and they do so by adding Joseph Ossai from Texas at pick No. 27. The Bucs have a nice combination of young and veteran players, and in Ossai, they get a guy they build around at the position moving forward.
The Buffalo Bills lost a heartbreaker to the Arizona Cardinals this past weekend, as Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray connected with DeAndre Hopkins on a Hail Mary to win it. For the Bills, that will do nothing to diminish what this team could be this season, especially with quarterback Josh Allen playing at a high level.
Buffalo still needs help on defense, especially at linebacker, and they get a very talented player in Dylan Moses late in the first round. Moses could drop due to his injury history, and in Buffalo, he would end up being a cornerstone on their defense.
