Klay Thompson injured his lower leg in a workout just before the NBA Draft.
Thompson was working back from an ACL tear, which was suffered in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Klay is a beloved figure around the league. The son of former league great Mychal Thompson, Klay’s established himself as one of the greatest shooters of his generation, though he’s often overshadowed by Steph Curry.
If Thompson goes down with an injury the Warriors’ NBA Title chances go down significantly. The Dubs original core of Curry, Thompson and Draymond Green led Golden State to two NBA Championships. After a detour with Kevin Durant, who left for Brooklyn, the Warriors took a year off (so to say) and added Andrew Wiggins.
Even with the second-overall pick in the NBA Draft, the Warriors would be selecting (at best) a role player for their 2021 season. Thompson needs to be the Thompson of old, and for the full season if he can afford it.
Any injury to Thompson would be devastating to the NBA landscape
NBA fans and players reached out to Klay on Twitter after the news of his injury hit the airwaves.
Prayers up for my brother @KlayThompson 🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿

Nooo not Klay...back to back injuries are the most gut-wrenching. But he's a beast. His story is far from over and still being written 🙏🏼

This Klay Thompson injury sucks. It’s the one damn thing we all wanted to see: Golden State healthy.

As much as the Warriors were hated when they acquired Durant, it’d be a shame if they didn’t get one last healthy run in them before all three stars were past their prime. Another injury to Thompson could rob us of that.
All the best to Thompson.
