Nick Chubb stepping out of bounds against the Texans lost Charles Barkley a whole lot more than a fantasy game.

In his first game back after missing time due to a knee injury, the third-year runner showed he hadn’t missed a beat with his production. Against the Houston Texans, Chubb finished with19 carries for 126 yards and one touchdown on the way to a 10-7 victory. It could have been a pair of scores, but a last-second bailout helped the team maintain possession.

It was a noble gesture to the Texans’ defense, but the move also cost betters a 1/2 point loss for anyone who took Cleveland at -3.5. One of those was Hall of Fame basketball legend Charles Barkley, and let’s say he wasn’t too happy to be out of some cash.

“He’s [Chubb] a nice kid, but if he ever runs out of bounds like that again, I’m going fly to Cleveland personally and just beat the hell out of him,” Barkley said Thursday on ESPN Cleveland. “I’m jumping up and down because I’m thinking I’m going to get this cover and when he ran out of bounds, I wondered, ‘did he just run out of bounds?’

“Next time I see Nick Chubb, I’m going to punch him in his face I promise you that.”

Chubb vs. Charles, who you taking?

Barkley wasn’t the only better who took it to heart at Chubb’s run Sunday. Anyone who put down cash on the game certainly watched their heart sink moving into the closing seconds of defeat. Here’s hoping this was a one-time thing for Chubb moving forward.

Chubb has been one of the premier backs in the NFL over the past three years. Building off a near 1,000-yard campaign in 2018, he finished second in rushing with 1,494 yards and eight touchdowns. Currently, Chubb has tallied 461 rushing yards on 76 carries and five touchdowns in five games.

A Georgia alum, Chubb is probably glad he chose to run between the hedges instead of the plains of Auburn. If he went shared the same school as Barkley, things might not have gone over so well, so here’s a positive to that between the two SEC greats.
