LeMahieu was always one of the most consistent hitters in the game with the Colorado Rockies given his batting title, but he went from a rock-solid contact hitter to a true offensive superstar when he joined the Yankees. LeMahieu hit an AL-best .364 while leading the league in on-base percentage, OPS, and OPS+. If not for Tim Anderson winning the 2019 batting title by a handful of points, the 32-year-old would have three batting titles in his career. After averaging nine home runs per 162 games with the Rockies, LeMahieu has tallied an absurd 30 home runs per 162 as a Yankee.
While the Yankees will do everything they can to keep their best player from the last two years, Cohen and the Mets will be waiting to offer him a substantial contract this offseason.
The Mets need to go big-game hunting this offseason, as a fanbase starved for success is expecting new ownership to make winning a priority. If the Mets end up either signing LeMahieu or trading for Cleveland Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor, they should be well on their way to contention in the NL East for the first time in a half-decade. LeMahieu be getting up there in age, but he has hit as well as anyone over the last two seasons, and that warrants a look from the Mets
