Those interested in reading tea leaves have anticipated that Hield, who has fallen out of favor with head coach Luke Walton, could be on the move this offseason, and Sacramento’s draft strategy in the 2020 NBA Draft has further crystallized that notion. In addition to gearing up for a huge De’Aaron Fox contract, the Kings used two of their three 2020 draft picks on combo guards in Iowa State first-rounder Tyrese Haliburton and Texas Tech second-rounder Jah’mius Ramsey, respectively. Hield is one of the game’s best shooters, and Golden State should look to add him following the unfortunate Thompson news.

Last season, only James Harden took more three-point shots than Hield, and his 41 percent career shooting percentage on just under seven 3s per game should help him earn a starting role under Steve Kerr and plenty of shot attempts as soon as he arrives in Golden State.

Much like Harris, Hield is not a great defender, and the fact he has three years left on a $94 million contract he signed with Sacramento could make it tough for Bob Myers to pull the trigger on a deal. However, if Golden State is comfortable with taking on his contract and Sacramento is satisfied with trading Hield to a division rival, the Warriors might be able to hit the ground running in 2020 with Hield in place of Thompson.
