NFL DFS Bargain Bin: Week 11 Sunday Slates Quarterbacks
Carson Wentz, PHI at CLE ($5,700-DK/$7,400-FD)
Wentz’s inclusion as a DFS suggestion in any capacity at this point may seem counterintuitive, given how poorly he’s played thus far. However, the embattled quarterback’s current salaries, particularly on DK, reflect his recent downturn, and his Week 11 matchup also merits him some attention as a likely lower-owned tournament play. Moreover, Wentz certainly stands a chance to improve with several offensive teammates finally getting healthy — Miles Sanders and Alshon Jeffery both returned last week, while Dallas Goedert‘s previously injured ankle appears to be back to full strength after the talented tight end logged 53 and 62 snaps in games against the Cowboys and Giants, respectively, sandwiched around the Week 9 bye. Moreover, Goedert’s position mate Zach Ertz (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday, affording him a chance to play versus Cleveland.
Their wind-swept Week 10 win over the Texans aside, the Browns have been much more readily attacked through the air than on the ground.. Cleveland is steering plenty of action toward the passing game by allowing the eighth-fewest rushing yards per game (104.9). In turn, the Browns have yielded 252.2 passing yards per contest, along with a 66.8 percent completion rate and an 18:7 TD:INT. Wentz has undeniably struggled with his accuracy all season, but he’s still comfortably exceeded 20 fantasy points on both DK and FD in four of nine games, including a pair of tallies over 30 on the former. As long as weather isn’t an overriding factor once again, Wentz could be set to offer a strong return on his depressed costs.
Alex Smith, WFT vs. CIN ($5,300-DK/$6,600-FD)
Smith makes his second consecutive appearance in this space after coming through handsomely in Week 10 with a career-high 390 passing yards in a failed comeback bid against the Lions. With that performance, the veteran quarterback certainly abolished any residual doubts there may have been about his health after he missed nearly two years with a devastating lower leg injury. Smith now has a chance to keep the momentum going against a Bengals squad that’s typically forced teams to remain aggressive on offense and that at times has proven ill-equipped to slow down opposing passing attacks.
The Bengals are allowing the seventh-most passing yards per game (265.1), along with a 65.1 percent completion rate and an elevated 7.3 average yards per attempt. Cincy has also yielded the second-most passing touchdowns (21), leading to averages of 22.1 DK/21.1 FD points surrendered to QBs on the campaign. While game script is highly unlikely to dictate that Smith once again put up anywhere near the 55 pass attempts he recorded versus Detroit, the Bengals are facing an average of a solid 36.1 passes per contest thus far, while Smith is averaging 10.6 yards per completion. Therefore, the numbers do align for another strong performance on the part of the veteran if the Bengals keep the pressure on by remaining competitive throughout.
