Lightweight boxer Javier Fortuna had an easy go with Antonio Lozada as he dropped him in round 1 and finished him in round 6 via TKO.

Javier Fortuna has held lower-level world titles in the past and always showed the potential to be a major world champion, and he flashed that same prowess against Antonio Lozada.

Fortuna vs. Lozada was the main event of PBC on FS1’s fight card on Saturday, Nov. 21. The bout looked competitive on paper, but Lozada didn’t stand a chance against Fortuna.

Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) is regarded as a top lightweight. He’s currently rated number seven by Boxrec.com and has a history of success. He won the WBA “regular” junior lightweight title in 2014 with a unanimous decision victory over Bryan Vasquez, but he has also had major let downs.

He lost his WBA title in 2016 after Jason Sosa stopped him in round 11. Fortuna worked his way back into a title shot against Robert Easter Jr. in 2018 but didn’t make weight. Ultimately, he lost to Easter by split-decision.

Javier Fortuna showed his heavy hands by stopping Antonio Lozada in round 6

Fortuna won his last two fights while Lozada dropped back to back contests. Lozada’s (40-5-1, 34 KOs) biggest win came against Felix Verdejo in 2018 when he stopped Verdejo in the 10th and final round. It was an eye-catching performance, but he looked far away from the fighter he was on that night against Fortuna.

At 6-foot-tall, Lozada enjoyed a 6-inch height advantage over Fortuna, but Fortuna’s southpaw stance gave the orthodox Lozada fits. Fortuna connected on a big looping left hook that sent Lozada down in round 1.

Lozada made it to his feet and survived the round, but he never had a chance. Fortuna punished Lozada with hooks for the remainder of the fight that came to an end in round 6.

Fortuna stunned Lozada with a left hook that made Lozada go limp, but he managed to stay on his feet. The referee caught Lozada’s weakened state and immediately stopped the fight giving Fortuna the round 6 TKO.

The lightweight division is loaded with talent, and Fortuna is in the mix with all the top boxers. It will be fun to see if he can land an elite opponent for his next outing.
