The NFL must protect its players at all cost, supposedly.

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones would beg to differ, however, after he was mauled in plain sight by the Indianapolis Colts. Jones is among the best running backs in football, so if he can’t get a call, no one can. Yet, it’s just another play in a long line of examples of NFL referees failing to apply a critical part of their job description.

Jones and the Packers blew a two-touchdown lead to the Colts, and any added yardage on offense would’ve been useful at this point in the game. Instead, Matt LaFleur and Co. were left wondering “what if”.

Jones has made an impact as a runner and receiver in 2020

Despite entering perhaps his final year as a Green Bay Packer, Jones has upped his value on the open market by developing his game as a receiver. While the Packers backfield is loaded with talent, with Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillon behind Jones, the 25-year-old is still easily the best of the bunch, and Green Bay would be making a bold decision by moving on from his services.

There’s still months until the start of the NFL offseason, but every Jones highlight reminds fans just how badly he’s needed in Wisconsin.
